Built 1977

In summer and fall the Brown County Playhouse, under the auspices of Indiana University’s Theatre and Drama Department, draws an audience from many localities for its popular productions. The Playhouse developed from a stage in a barn that opened to play to an audience sitting in wooden seats. In 1949, Lee Norvelle of Indiana University and Jack Rogers teamed up to produce the first summer theatre on the same location. A tent shielded the audience from the rain. In 1977 a thoroughly modern theatre was built with the audience seated on three sides of a thrust stage.

The Brown County Playhouse season runs from June through October. For more information, visit- http://www.indiana.edu/~thtr/bcplay.html or call 812-855-0514.
